Mediation
Mediation gives couples the opportunity to work together in a client-led child focused
way so that they can make decisions together about all the issues which matter to them arising out of their separation.
Contrary to popular opinion, mediation is not
reconciliation and it is not therapy,
it is a process which offers a separating couple an opportunity to agree for
themselves how they are going to resolve the various issues arising out of their
separation.
In her mediations, Nicola uses her legal skills and experience to facilitate
constructive future focused discussions between the clients so that they can make
joint decisions in a way that they are comfortable with, rather than having an
outcome imposed upon them by a Judge.
Mediation involves both parties meeting with Nicola together, sometimes on a number of occasions until agreement is reached. It is
considerably cheaper than the traditional process and often assists the clients in being able to communicate on an ongoing basis.
Child inclusive mediation
Nicola is very excited to be able to offer child inclusive mediation which gives couples the opportunity to invite their children to meet with
Nicola and to feed their views into the mediation process, should they wish to do so.
This not only gives the child an opportunity to express their view in a clear considered way but also gives the child the chance to feel
involved in a process which effects him/her so profoundly.
Very often decisions are made within the legal process which have a very
significant outcome for children without the children concerned actually being consulted.
Research tells us that many children have found this unsatisfactory. Nicola is therefore delighted to be able to offer families the
chance to involve children in the mediation process, in appropriate circumstances.
