Collaborative Law

Couples working together to make separation easier.

Much is written about the damage that can be done to families who go through the Court process. The collaborative process offers a client-led, lawyer supported alternative to this.

Collaborative law involves both parties instructing a collaborative lawyer and then the clients and lawyers sit around a table and in a constructive way, all discussions being underpinned by the principle that they will not issue or threaten Court proceedings, which demonstrates a commitment to resolve all issues in a conciliatory way.

As with mediation, a collaborative approach is conducive to good ongoing communication between the couple. Collaborative law is a good option for a client who requires a greater amount of lawyer support than the mediation model gives as the client has their own lawyer who is present at every meeting.
